Have you ever wondered what life could be like living in pure happiness, free from worries? Here is a little window into how Ascension meditation has changed my life completely, and how this simple and effortless technique could let you have the best year yet! Happy 2012 everyone!
To come to realize, more and more, that to be in pain, to panic, to sit up worrying at night is a choice – it is clear to say that my life has been completely turned on its head. I used to be a perpetual worrier. No matter how great an occasion presented itself: My sister’s wedding; Christmas; a holiday of a life-time to America, there was always that little voice in the back of my head nagging away. It was like having one eye on the happy event in front of me and the other on the thing I was worrying about. Now, don’t get me wrong, if someone had told me before I learned to ascend that there was a different way to live, that you could live your life in perpetual joy, happiness and contentment, I would of said to them, ‘yeah, yeah…maybe for you. There’s stuff out in the world that you have to deal with that you just can’t be ok with.’ Or as my Dad puts it, ‘that’s just life, you have got to take the good with the bad.’
However, my experience of life has totally flipped. I have recently just comeback from the Mastery of the Self course in Spain and to be back in my old haunts (including my bed where I used to lay at night and worry) but be in a completely different space is quite simply magical. It’s not that the worrying voice doesn’t rear its head – but my relationship to those worrying thoughts and the ‘stressful’ things in life has completely changed.
Before I learnt to ascend I used to experience my life like this:

This is typically the way I experienced life before, I was subject to the quality of my thoughts. If a worrying thought came along I worried, as that’s where my attention was, permanently. It was quite simply the way I had always lived my life.
By Ascending, using just simple, simple techniques (really just little mechanical sentences) slowly but surely my relationship to my thoughts has changed totally! It is more like this now:

As you can see, my attention isn’t grasping onto the thoughts passing through my mind anymore. By gradually practicing and using these simple techniques my attention is more on the space around the thoughts. Within this space lies what I always wanted from life – to be content and happy. Of course I had experienced happiness and contentment to an extent beforehand, but this happiness is boundless, it comes not only by exploring the space itself, but quite naturally in the freedom from the thoughts passing through my mind. It has gradually become an effort, like having to lean over a massive gap only to pick up a mouldy apple, to put my attention on the thoughts that are passing through my mind.
This is not to say that the things that used to be ‘stressful’ for me don’t occur and require action anymore, but the difference now is that I can do it from this space of infinite joy and contentment – rather being sucked up into the whirlpool of worry that used to plague me. It is amazing that worry isn’t necessary to get the job done!
The cool thing is that this isn’t a process that takes time. By simply choosing for an Ascension Attitude (the techniques you learn when learning to ascend) this can be a permanent experience in a blink of an eye – it just depends where you choose to put you attention. Once you learn, you have a choice. The Attitudes take you straight to that space in which you have freedom from your thoughts, and where true happiness and contentment exist. I know for me that I would rather focus on what I have always wanted in my life – to be truly and completely happy- rather than worrying thoughts in my head!
But don’t take my word for it! If you don’t ascend – give it a try if you fancy it, as I certainly wouldn’t have believed it to be true until I experienced it for myself. For those who already Ascend, go and have fun with your Attitudes with your eyes open and eyes closed and focus on what you want! Maybe, just maybe you’ll have the best year yet.
Love and Happiness for 2012,
