The Power Of Choice

Remember! You are always at choice!

When I think of some of the unusual encounters I have had over the years, it seems that I have been attended by angels all my life. A series of enlightened beings or saints – or maybe actual angels, I don’t know – have shown up at just the right moment to give me the messages I most needed to hear.

One such encounter happened many years ago when I was attending a hands-on healing event. Several people were lying on couches, and a larger number were giving hands-on healing, moving around the room according to where they felt drawn. At times I had the hands of half a dozen people on me. It was a very powerful day, and I went through some significant healing.

But then something happened right at the end of the day that is more clear in my memory than any healing I experienced.

The closing circle had just finished, and everyone was packing up to go home when a woman approached me. I recognised her as one of the healers, although she had seemed to have an apprenticeship role, hovering around the edges.

But now, she was full of confidence as she came up to me. She took my hands in hers and came close and whispered: “Remember! You are always at choice!”

I looked at her big face, pressed up so close against mine, and noticed how bright her eyes were. Her skin glowed. She seemed to overflow with presence. I just stared blankly at her, trying to fathom what she had just said, and then politely thanked her and released my hands from her grip.

A regal possession

At the time, this seemed like an odd thing to say. Of course, I am always free to choose what I do, right? What is so significant about that?

And yet, the way she delivered this message, and the impression she made upon me, meant that I couldn’t dismiss it as unfathomable nonsense. It lingered around, like a puzzle that I had been given and that I had so far failed to solve.

These days, however, I think of her often, as the importance of her message has revealed itself to me. Choice is indeed a regal possession, perhaps the greatest treasure we have been given. But not the choice to have eggs or porridge for breakfast. No, I believe what she was referring to, what had her glowing like that, was the power to choose where we put our attention.

I call this a regal possession because by exercising it, we become the King or Queen of our own realm. By this choice, can we gain access to the Kingdom of Heaven, indeed.

Meditation – A Tool to Remember the Power of Choice

I guess that’s a very general way to describe it. There are so many forms of meditation available these days, and the reasons people take up a regular practice are almost as varied. The benefits of meditation are widely known. It seems like it all began in the ’60s with Transcendental Meditation, and now things like Mindfulness meditation are widely accepted.

Then there are other forms of meditation. Spiritual meditation, breathing techniques and visualisation techniques. Some practices stem from eastern religions such as Buddhist traditions, and some have more recent origins.

Meditation improves our quality of life and reduces our stress levels. Clinical trial data is showing the effectiveness of meditation for the whole human experience. It has positive benefits for physical health, emotional health, anxiety disorders, cardiovascular health, cognitive processes, heart disease, substance abuse, emotional stability, and the list goes on.

“With meditation, you become a sensitised superhero, completely in control, with endless possibilities at your fingertips.” – Tara Stiles

So, with so many available, which form of meditation do we choose?

Enter Ascension

The Ishayas’ practice, Ascension, not only brings all of these incredible effects of meditation, it has the primary focus of bringing you back into conscious connection with this power of choice. Ascension is so simple, and the benefits are so immediate that cultivating a daily practise is something anyone can do. Just a few minutes of meditation a day, this form of meditation, and life can open like a flower.

The Mystical and Magical Made Normal

We rest in the centre of infinite potential and contain within us the sacred intelligence that has given rise to the entire universe. Spiritual leaders for centuries have talked about this consciousness. This type of meditation, Ascension, gives us the tools to train our attention on that, not as a concept or philosophy, but as an experience.

Even in daily life, we can choose to remain close to it. Then the texture of life can change; the laws that govern us become the laws of Love, which override the petty codes of judgement and shame. We start to draw our identity from this place of infinite potential rather than the ragged dressing-up box of shifting personas that we used to fret over.

“We do not build or create a spiritual consciousness; we merely get rid of all that obscures our pure vision” – Roy Davis.

These days I think with wonder of that radiant woman and her baffling message. With unnerving confidence, she planted a seed deep inside me that now has started to grow and bear fruit.

And I agree with her: of all the things about us that are true, of all the things that can bring healing into our lives, the most important thing to remember is that we are always, always, at choice.

Maybe she was an angel. Or could it have been that she was an Ascender?
